As the impact of human existence continues to mount upon the shoulders of Mother Nature, many animal populations have seen a drastic decline over the last several decades. The Pacific Walrus is no exception. We at Alaska’s Gold Creek Lodge, near Brooks Falls, Alaska, know our guests’ value and appreciate the opportunity to witness such majestic beasts within their natural domain. As such, we are delighted to present an unforgettable wildlife viewing experience. As one of the best places to see walruses in Alaska, we’re fortunate to offer extraordinary excursions to Cape Greig. It’s a remote location that is only accessible by plane or helicopter. Thankfully, we have a knowledgeable staff of guides and outfitters who will help maximize your time on an unforgettable adventure.
Pacific Walrus Viewing | Living Attractions in Alaska
Despite their massive size and stoic appearance, the Pacific Walrus is a relatively skittish member of the animal kingdom. Noise travels quickly across open areas. So boats and planes can easily disrupt the herd, leading to danger for younglings and smaller walruses. In fact, stampedes are among the most common ways for these massive animals to meet an untimely end! Fortunately, we’ve spent plenty of time witnessing these beloved behemoths and have several techniques to ensure a successful outing. Even from afar, it’s essential to respect the domain of the Pacific walrus so that they continue to visit Cape Greig. It wasn’t until 2017 when the first documented walruses came to Cape Greig, so we’ll need to be discrete to ensure their return. You can learn more about the Pacific walrus and other Alaskan animals by visiting the Department of Fish & Game website.
All-Inclusive Alaska Resorts and Vacations
Very few people can say they’ve witnessed a Pacific walrus in its natural habitat. Unique wildlife viewing opportunities are just one of the many aspects that separate Gold Creek Lodge from other resorts in Alaska. Although many of our guests narrow in on fishing, they’re always grateful to add something special to their retreat.
